DEFUNDING DTRBN and FG Parastatals

Here are five practicable strategies to help the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria (DTRBN) raise sufficient funds to run its affairs without burdening its few members in this defunding era but must seek more powers to achieve more:*

Let's not wait until the deadline before we start working.

1. Diversify Revenue Streams
Explore alternative sources of funding by diversifying the revenue streams of the DTRBN.

a. Look for partnerships with private companies, dental equipment manufacturers and sellers, dental institutions, alumni organisations, and educational organizations.
b.Seek sponsorship opportunities, grants, and donations that align with the board's mission and values. By broadening the sources of income, the board can mitigate the burden on its members.

2. Professional Development Programmes:

a. Offer specialized professional development programmes, workshops, and seminars tailored to the needs of dental technologists.
b. Collaborate with industry experts to create engaging and relevant training sessions. Charge a reasonable participation fee, ensuring that the programmes deliver value and enhance the skills of the participants. These initiatives not only generate revenue but also foster professional growth within the community.

3. Certification and Accreditation Services:

a. Provide certification and accreditation services to dental technology professionals and institutions.
b. Develop standardized criteria and guidelines for quality assurance and establish a rigorous evaluation process. Charging a fee for certification and accreditation services can contribute significantly to the financial sustainability of the board. Such credentials also enhance the professional reputation and credibility of the members.

4. Industry Partnerships and Collaborations:

a. Forge strategic partnerships and collaborations with dental manufacturers, suppliers, and dental clinics.
b. Explore opportunities for joint ventures, product endorsements, and exclusive partnerships. By leveraging the board's expertise and influence, it can negotiate favourable agreements that generate both financial support and mutual benefits for the industry partners involved.

5. Fundraising Events and Campaigns:

a. Organize fundraising events and campaigns that bring together dental technologists, industry professionals, and the general public.
b. Consider hosting conferences, exhibitions, or charity events that showcase the latest advancements in dental technology.

c. Collaborate with local businesses, dental associations, and community organizations to raise awareness and funds for the board's activities.

d. Utilize various platforms, including social media, crowdfunding, and sponsorships, to maximize outreach and engagement.

Remember, implementing these strategies will require careful planning, effective communication, and proactive engagement with stakeholders.
By adopting a multifaceted approach and leveraging the strengths of the dental technology community, the regulatory board can work towards financial sustainability while minimizing the burden on its members.
